Once upon a time in Zakynthos

Once Upon a Time in Zakynthos ✨

Four years after filming James & Stacey’s beautiful wedding in Zante, Greece, I received an enquiry through my website from Patsy and Karl. They shared that they had been searching for “cinematic wedding Greece” after finding so many of the wedding videos on YouTube too much like “cringe karaoke.” That’s when they discovered James & Stacey’s film — right at the top of Google. Patsy told me she connected with it instantly, watching it over and over, knowing that this was the exact style of storytelling she wanted for her own wedding film.

From our very first video call, it was clear that Karl & Patsy were deeply invested in capturing their day in a way that was both cinematic and timeless. They immediately secured their date, and alongside my associate photographer, Paul Hollingsworth, we began planning their dream wedding in Zakynthos. With our previous experience filming destination weddings on the island, we knew just how magical this location could be and how to make the most of it for their film.

Pre-Wedding Shoot – Solomos Square & Keri Caves

Before the wedding itself, we ventured out for a pre-wedding shoot. In Solomos Square, we captured the energy of Zakynthos’ sunlit streets, with Patsy in her flowing flying dress, gracefully moving with the breeze, while Karl stood tall in his sharp tuxedo. These moments weren’t just about aesthetics — they were about weaving their personalities into the fabric of the island itself.

Later, we explored the breathtaking Keri Caves, where the turquoise waters and dramatic cliffs provided a cinematic backdrop worthy of a feature film. Using drone shots, wide cinematic frames, and intimate close-ups, we created sequences that would add depth and narrative to their final wedding film.

Behind the Lens – Wedding Day in Zakynthos

On the wedding day, preparation was key. With destination weddings, gear planning is always a balance — packing only the essentials while ensuring we have everything needed to capture the story in full detail. My kit included multiple cameras, tripods, lenses, and a drone, all carefully planned to cover every angle of the ceremony and reception.

Setting up for the ceremony, I placed discreet tripods to capture steady shots of the vows, while handheld cameras allowed me to move fluidly and capture the raw emotions — the nervous hand squeezes, the joyful tears, the unguarded smiles. Overhead, the drone soared to frame the breathtaking island scenery, giving a sense of place and grandeur to the intimate moments unfolding below.

A Love Story Woven Into Film

As I wandered through the sun-drenched streets of Zakynthos and along its shimmering coastline, it became clear that this wedding was not just an event — it was a living, breathing story. Each laugh, each tear, and each embrace held a depth that went beyond visuals. My goal was to not only capture the beauty of the island but to preserve the fleeting, powerful emotions of Karl & Patsy’s day.

From their first look under the Grecian sun, to their vows exchanged by the sea, to their first dance beneath a sky painted orange and pink at sunset — every frame was crafted to reflect the timelessness of their love.

Reflections

What struck me most was not just the scenic backdrop of Zakynthos but the profound intimacy between Karl & Patsy. As a wedding filmmaker, my role is to create more than just moving images — it is to build a cinematic time capsule that allows couples to relive the laughter, the joy, and the raw emotion for years to come.

Karl & Patsy’s wedding film is a reminder of why I do what I do: to transform a single day into an eternal story, told through the language of cinema. Zakynthos gifted us its beauty, but it was their love that made it unforgettable.
